Mahler’s Fifth
The Gainesville Orchestra presents “Mahler’s Fifth”
An epic journey through one of the most powerful and romantic symphonies ever written. Composed in celebration of Mahler meeting his wife, the amazing Alma Schindler. The fifth symphony includes the popular “Adagietto” used in Visconti’s film Death in Venice and is a heroic voyage of life. As Mahler said, “a symphony must be like the world, it must contain everything.”

The Firebird: Tales from the east
The Gainesville Orchestra presents “The Firebird: Tales from the East”
Filled with orchestral fireworks, Stravinsky’s beloved “The Firebird” is the story of Prince Ivan, the evil magician Koschei and the magical Firebird. It is paired with Ravel’s delicious and lush “Mother Goose Suite.”

The journey begins with Wagner's thrilling “The Flying Dutchman," and Tan Dun’s multi-dimensional “Paper Concerto." Tan Dun has wowed our audience with his “Water Concerto," and audiences around the world with his film scores including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Immerse yourself in a musical and visual feast. This premiere concert of the season finishes with Liszt’s thrilling “Les Preludes.”
